AAHHHH my first post, how exciting! I always try to make 1 new years resolution and stick to it, but that method has yet to work, so this year I've made resolutions that are more realistic to my lifestyle and that I think are things that I will stick with. I've chosen ideas that will help my mind body and soul.
First is a promise to myself that I will either go to a yoga class everyday or go to the gym and work out. I love practicing yoga but I don't love biking in the freezing cold and falling snow to get there.
The second is to create a meditation routine that fits into my daily life. Meditation is something that gives me such a great sense of self and always brings me back to who I am, so it seems silly not to do something thats proven to be so powerful to me.
And lastly is something that I've already started incorporating into my life for a few months. It's to spend money on experiences rather than over material objects. I loooove shopping whether it's for other people or for me. I love clothes and I love fashion but I've realized that I have a hard time saving money because I always spend it on clothes. SO, I've made the conscious decision that from now on I'm going to spend my money on experiences rather than shopping, I have enough clothes. It may sound a little silly but it's already led me to experiences such amazing things.
On a different note, for the past two years I've gone on the Spirit Rock meditation teen retreat over new years. It was a life changing 5 days and I met my lovely Anna girl there and we've been inseparable ever since. This is the first year I haven't gone, and it does hurt a little bit knowing all my metta friends are there without me laughing and drinking tea, but at the same time it feels good knowing that I've matured into a new mindset. I had never really meditated for a long period of time before my first time on the retreat when I was 17, and wow, the difference it made. I became a lot more in touch with what I wanted and how I perceived myself, and it's made a world of difference in my everyday life. I'm eternally thankful for the people I've met, my teachers and things I've learned because of the teen retreats. c:
So this year I'm going out to a masquerade with my dear old friend Natasha where I'm going to wear a sparkly shirt and feathery mask and bring in 2012 with some carefree fun! Happy New Year everybody!
